Who writes this and how it is checked
Most of what appears here is written by a field officer about a site they were standing at that week. It is edited for clarity and checked against the monitoring record before it goes up, and the check is the reason a post about a planting day sometimes appears a fortnight after the planting day.
Anything carrying a figure carries the date the figure was counted. A survival rate without a date is not a fact about a river, it is a fact about a moment, and this site has enough numbers in it that the distinction matters.
Where a post describes something that went wrong, it stays up. The failed cohort at Nyakayojo is written about on this site in several places and none of those pages have been quietly revised since.
What we publish, and roughly how often
- Field updates, whenever something has actually happened. There are quiet months and we do not fill them.
- Monitoring results, quarterly, including the readings that got worse.
- The Catchment Dispatch by email, roughly monthly.
- Press releases, rarely, and only where there is something a journalist could not get from the site itself.
- Photographs, dated and located, with the photographer and licence named beside each one.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, tell us and we will correct it. A correction to a figure is noted on the page rather than made silently, because a number that changes without explanation is worse than the original error. This applies to the data pages as much as to the news.
