From the field
Written by whoever was standing in the river that week. Including the months when the numbers went the wrong way, which are usually the more useful reports.
Nothing published here yet
Field reports go up as they are written, which in practice means after a planting round or a monitoring visit rather than on a schedule. We would rather leave this page empty than fill it.
The monitoring readings are published whether or not anybody has written them up, and the method behind them is public.

The Catchment Dispatch goes out roughly monthly. Field notes, monitoring results and the occasional setback. No appeals unless something is genuinely urgent.

How this is written
What happens to a number before it appears here
Written by whoever was there
Field reports are written by the officer who was at the site, not by a communications desk working from their notes. It reads less smoothly and it is accurate about what happened.
Checked against the record
Anything carrying a figure is reconciled with the monitoring record before publication. This is why an account of a planting day sometimes appears a fortnight afterwards.
Every figure carries its date
A survival rate without a date is a fact about a moment, not about a river. Counts on this site say when they were made, and the interval they were made over.
Corrections are shown, not made quietly
If a number changes, the page says that it changed and why. A figure that is silently different from the one somebody quoted last year is worse than the original error.
Reports about work that went badly stay up. The cohort lost at Nyakayojo in 2023 is described here, on the project directory, and on the lessons page, and none of those accounts has been revised since. If you find something on this site that is wrong, tell us and it will be corrected on the page rather than removed from it.
