Why request rather than download
Because most of these are internal documents that have not been formatted to be readable by a screen reader, and publishing an inaccessible PDF is a way of appearing transparent without being so. Ask and we will send what exists today.
What is actually in the datasets
| Dataset | Fields | Coverage | Known limits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Water quality readings | Point ID, coordinates, date, turbidity, and the accompanying field observations | 6 points, quarterly, 2023 to present | Quarterly sampling is too coarse to separate a restoration effect from seasonal variation |
| Planting and survival records | Site, date, species, count planted, count surviving at 6 and 12 months | All sites, 2022 to present | The 2022 cohort has incomplete six-month returns; failed sites remain in the denominator |
| Fixed-point photography | Point ID, coordinates, bearing, date | 6 points, quarterly | Frames occasionally shift a little between visits; the bearing is recorded so you can tell |
| Site boundaries | Site ID, geometry, status, date established | Active sites | Boundaries are as surveyed on foot, not surveyed instrumentally |
| Buffer agreements | District, strip width, species mix, year, outcome | Anonymised only | Household identifiers are removed; do not attempt to re-identify |
Licence and citation
The text and data on this site are published under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence. You may reuse them, including commercially, as long as you say where they came from. Photographs taken by other people carry their own licences, which travel with the image and are named beside it.
Cite the dataset by name, the organisation, and the date you received it, because these files are revised as new counts come in and a citation without a date cannot be reproduced. If you would like a fixed, dated snapshot to cite against, say so and we will send one and keep a copy of exactly what you were sent.
About these files
Why is there no download button?
Because most of these documents were written for internal use and have not been formatted to be readable by a screen reader. Publishing an inaccessible PDF is a way of appearing transparent without being so. The datasets are plain CSV and go out by email the same working day.
Will you send data that makes you look bad?
Yes. The failed cohort at Nyakayojo is in the planting records, the readings that got worse are in the water quality series, and neither has been removed.
Can I get the raw field notes?
Not in full, because they contain household names and unrecorded conversations. Specific extracts, anonymised, are usually possible.
Do I have to say what I want it for?
A sentence is enough, and it is not a condition. It helps us send the right file and tell you what is wrong with it.
